The Personality Of A Beach

"The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination and brings eternal joy to
the soul."  -Robert Wyland

"For whatever we lose (like a you or a me), it's always ourselves we find in the sea."
-  E. E. Cummings

Every beach has its own personality:
easy access with a parking lot or a long hike
clear or silty water makes its color turquoise, blue or brown
water can thunderously roll in or calmly lap at the shore
course or fine white, tan, black or even pink sand
sometimes rocky
treasures washed ashore can range from shells, sea glass, or coral
shore lines can be miles long or a short secluded cove
sea critters making the ocean home can be turtles, fish, stingrays...
land critters living there could be crabs, lizards, even a stray chicken or donkey
snorkeling is fun on some beaches, surfing on others

I have my favorites.
But which is the best?
Whichever one I happen to be standing on  :)

left: abandoned seashells  right: turtle tracks left in the sand  These pictures also show a good comparison between f-stops. The picture on the left was shot at f 5.6 and the picture on the right was shot at f 20 (with some clarity removed in Lightroom)

My family and I spent spring break in Florida walking on this long beach and finding treasures.  One night a turtle laid her eggs and left her tracks as well!  I hope you are enjoying your spring.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
Have a great day!

Michelle

  1. Nothing like a getaway to the ocean to revive your soul. That sky is wonderful, I love clouds so much and these speak to me. You hit the jackpot on that beach with all those shells, love the low down view of both.

  2. You know I love the beach, and yes each one is very different, but that is the great joy in exploring them and photographing them. Loved your side by side f-stop shots.

  3. Hope you escaped the colder week in Ohio by going to Florida, and enjoyed the relaxation that only the ocean and beach can give...warm sunshine, exploring along the water edge. Beautiful photos Michelle...hope you are enjoying some warm weather this week as well.

  4. As always Michelle your words are beautiful and tell your story. I also love the ocean and spend lots of time there. Fortunately we are close by to many beaches.
Love the dreamy colors of your photos and especially love the shallow dof in the seashell shot. Just beautiful.

  8. Turtle tracks left in the sand! Sounds amazing to see something like that!
As the Czech Republic is a landlocked land and we don't travel abroad much, my experience is quite limited when it comes to oceans and seas so I guess my answer to the question which is the best beach would be the same as yours. Whichever one I happened to be standing on!! :)

  9. What a beautiful picture of the sea and the skies above. I love the first quote, and so true. I long to see the ocean sometimes. I got a chance to visit it in November last year.
