Butter And Eggs

‘Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it’.
-  Julia Child
‘This is my invariable advice to people: Learn how to cook – try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless, and above all have fun.’  -  Julia Child
‘…no one is born a great cook, one learns by doing.’  -  Julia Child
‘The only real stumbling block is fear of failure.  In cooking you’ve got to have a what-the-heck attitude.’  -  Julia Child

I was searching for baking quotes and came across a number of quotes from Julia Child.  I remember watching her show when I was little.  Hearing her voice now brings back good memories and puts a smile on my face.  She was more than a great cook, she had plenty of good advise to take to heart.  Her advise wasn't just about cooking, it applied to life too.

I don’t bake much anymore.  I use to, but now time, calories, and the mess deter me.  I do enjoy a good pecan pie now and again.  Maybe in Julia Child’s honor I will make one today… or go pick one up and savor each bite.

The assignment for my class Be Still 52 was to create an image with butter and an egg.  I used my bright Fiesta dishes and a Lemon Crunch Loaf bought from my local grocery store.  (The crunch part is the large sugar crystals sprinkled on top.)

Today I am joining Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday and Be Still 52.  My image was textured with Kim’s textures waterfront 7 magic and gift.

Thank you for stopping by!!
Have a great week!!

  1. This from Be Still has been one of my favorite prompts, I don't know something so comforting about butter and eggs anyway so many ways to do this. Love the process here and now I am hungry which is good because that is what you want to convey in an image.

  5. Oh yummy, it looks so good. I love all the quotes by Julia Child you wrote down here. I enjoy cooking (most of the time) and this year I've been learning how to bake bread. It's a journey with quite some failures involved, but I do love it.

  6. So yummy! Love your take on this assignment. I love the quotes too - I remember watching Julia Child too (guess that is why I love cooking shows to this day!).

  7. Your butter and eggs look so good! Nicely done. Did you see the movie 'Julie/Julia'? It's been several years since it was out but I thought it was fun. No, I don't bake much anymore for all the reasons you stated and I don't cook any more than necessary for the same reasons.

  8. Michelle,
The lemon loaf looks yummy. I love anything lemon. You know, my son was interested in culinary arts at one time. He made me homemade pizza and other dishes. Jess is the baker in the family. Your pecan pie sounds wonderful. The Julia Child quotes sound delightful. Have you seen the movie Julie and Julia? I think you'd like it.

    Have a wonderful week.

  9. Michelle, I've sworn off baked goods for the holiday season, but your picture still warms my heart. The notion of food as comfort will forever be with me, and cooking and baking can certainly be acts of kindness. So your picture and your memories of Julia Child on TV are sincere and permit me to know you better - what a joy!

  10. You have a nice collection of Fiestaware! What a beautiful image you've made!! I don't bake much either as I try to limit carbs, but I might have made an exception for that delicious looking lemon loaf!

  11. Julia Child was just a delight to watch on our b/w tv screens and long before "taped" shows, so if she messed up it was right there on live tv! I loved how tall and regal she was, with the dry sense of humor. Great quotes!! Your Fiesta ware made beautiful containers for the yellow subjects of your lemon crunch cake recipe! I love it from above!

  12. What a clear picture: you can see every thread and every crumb.
I loved J.C. too. I gave my book away to a friend who is a true cook and
was in dire need....and I miss it, although I am no cook

  13. It is a lovely shot. I was trying to figure out what type of bread it was.

  14. The first thing I noticed in the shot was all the wonderful colors and how they all meshed together into a beautiful photo. I think most of us are in the same boat with our cooking but it's fun to think about…I loved the movie Julia and Julie…I thought it was terrific….

  15. I love Julia Child's philosophy that anything in moderation...including butter...is good. I follow that rule but like everyone else I find I can eat less and less of luscious baked goods which drives me crazy because I love to bake:) This looks delicious!

I really like all the quotes too, and even if I have never seen Julia's TV show, I quite enjoyed the movie "Julie & Julia".
