"Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory."
- Dr. Seuss
I found a great book entitled Collected: Living with the Things You Love. (You can see it here on Amazon.) It is a book full of collections. (The toaster collection is worth a peek all by itself.) The photographs are gorgeous.
While I was paging through the book, I got inspired to not only go flea market shopping, but also...of course...take some pictures.
But of what? I remembered a gallon Zip-Lock bag my mom gave
me over the summer. The bag kept safe
grandma's buttons, spools of thread and some sewing notions. It also had in it my mom's beautiful little scissors I remember her using when I was little.
As much as I enjoy photography, it is even more fun when the
'props' touch my heart.
Do you have any collections?
Do tell. :)
Have a great day.
Michelle
The light in that last picture is just beautiful....I am like you in that I love using 'special' things as my props. No only are we taking pictures for prompts, etc. but we will have a keepsake of that special item that hopefully will be seen by later generations....I love the bag of goodies you found....
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, I agree with Nancy...the light in that last image is gorgeous! And the Dr. Seuss quote, love that too!!
ReplyDeleteI have never been much for collections, but recently I have enjoyed collecting white flower vases. I love them because they are great in still life images. But they are also very diverse and quite beautiful on their own. All together they make for a lovely display.
Michelle, you must submit the last photo to Stampington! It's just stunning. What a special collection of memories you received from your mom. You must have quite an assortment in a gallon bag. The things people have touched, used, and created with are the best possessions to collect. I love the display on the silver tray.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all the above ... I gasped when I saw the light in that last image ... be still my heart. Michelle, you have a most beautiful blog, full of stunning images and wonderful ideas - thank you for the tip on that book - I'm putting it on my wish list. Have a wonderful day, and thank you for stopping by my blog earlier and leaving such a lovely comment - it's so encouraging.
ReplyDeleteEveryone is in agreement on your last photo. Not only is the light gorgeous but the colors are lovely and soft. You really have some gifts to treasure there Michelle. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSuch a delightful and delicate collection of pearls and jewellery, Michelle ... and the light falling on the pretty buttons and the thread ... Your photos have a peaceful and calming feeling!
ReplyDeleteI many collect cooking books, but now, having all too many, I need to resist the temptation of getting any new ones!
Oh that collected book looks delightful! Love the dark moody look with the sewing notions.
ReplyDeleteThat last image is so fabulous...I would be ecstatic if I could do that!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love those little scissors. Just darling. You are so good at staging props.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely, precious things ... . I totally understand your emotional attachment to these charming objects. They're so pretty and feminine and functional -- and then when you add to the mix how your mum and grandma have used them .. well, it makes them even more special. As always: really beautiful photos! All the best, Bonny
