Slowing Down

"Without patience, we will learn less in life.  We will see less.  We will feel less.  We will hear less.  Ironically, rush and more usually means less."  -   Mother Teresa
"Slow down and enjoy life.  It's not only the scenery you miss by going too fast - you also miss the sense of where you are going and why."  -  Eddie Cantor
"Failure is only the opportunity to begin again, only this time more wisely."
  Henry Ford

Last week I took some time to slow down.  I went with a friend and took some pictures of flowers...507 pictures to be exact.  :)

I enjoy shooting pictures when I can take my time.  I see more.  I see the changing light, colors, shapes and details which can be left behind if I am moving too quickly.

I take more pictures when I slow down.  I experiment with aperture and ISO while keeping my shutter speed high enough to hand hold.  I play with composition, shifting from left to right.   I adjust my perspective, going higher or lower.   I document each change with a click of my shutter...

I end up with more pictures I don't like, than I do like.  Even though I can see the image preview on the back of my camera, I never really know how my images look until I upload them to my computer.  At times I may be a little disappointment for missing a shot, but there is never a failure.  I learn something from each shot, what to try next time or what to never do again.

The only way I could truly fail...is to never try at all.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
Have a great day!

Michelle

  1. Beautiful colors and details! It's so hard to find the time to slow down - but when I do, I truly savor it. Your photo shoot looks wonderful!

  2. It's so true that 'slow photography' is the method in which we capture the essence of what we observe. "Slow down and enjoy life" that's so true in all we do! I especially love your magnolia shot above. So many lovely pinks and fresh greens.

  7. The words of the quotes are a magic recipe...ones we ought to read every day. Your flower photography outing sounds wonderful and a relaxing time to capture so much beauty, which is always in flowers. The magnolia is stunning...the angle and detail. Have a wonderful week!

  11. A few years back I deleted thousands of flower photos that I had taken at various times that weren't quite there. It's so frustrating to me to know there's a good photo hidden in there and not quite getting it! Love your work!

  12. Oh my goodness, that's a lot of pictures to take at one time. But these are gorgeous. And isn't it nice to slow down once in awhile? We will see and hear interesting things. : )
