Sunflowers

"I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights."
-  Maya Angelou

"It's raining."

"What?  Rain wasn't even in the forecast for today."

"Well...it's raining."

My husband called me on his way to work.  He knew I wouldn't have looked out the window quite yet and I wouldn't be happy if rain ruined my plans to photograph the sunflowers.

I got a text shortly after his call from my friend who was planning to go with me.

'Are you still game?'

'Yes.'  I replied.

I really needed my camera in hand, sunflowers in my face and a friend by my side.  I was willing to brave a little rain the radar said may pass soon for some photo-therapy.

We were expecting mud, but we ended up not needing our rain boots after all.  The field was fairly dry and evidently didn't see the rain we did at home just a hour or two before.

It was just what I needed.

I hope my pictures brighten your day the way the sunflowers brightened mine.  :)

Thank you so much for stopping by!
Have a beautiful day!

  1. Such glorious shots of these beautiful sunflowers! I do love the shots 2 and 5 because of the wonderful details on the bee! The sheer happy yellow colour of the whole posting is a joy to the eyes!

  2. Uh oh - I'm pretty sure I fail Maya Angelou's "test". I don't handle any of those things well. It's a good thing you didn't let rain spoil your day - I love the cheerful sunflowers, and glad you had a fun outing!

  3. The sunflower is just one of those flowers that can always chase the blues away, no matter what the weather and they were so abundant this year. You not only captured all aspects of these lovely flowers but you tossed in a blue sky and a few lovely bee's. It really looks like it might have been a perfect day for you and your friend. I try not to let the weather determine my shooting schedule either. Glad you enjoyed your day Michelle.

  4. Sunflowers are so happy and really make one smile. I often feel my spirits lift when I see a beautiful sunflower, more so when there is an entire field of them. Your photos brought this feeling home. Thank you.

  5. Your pictures are awesome, Michelle. Sunflowers are such a pretty flower, and you have captured their beauty so well with your lens. What a sight it must have been to see the field of sunflowers. They are special flowers, and they look even prettier with a bumble bee on them. ; )
