"All
that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost..."
-
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
I called John, my husband, for help.
"I am between the really big swirly ice cream cone and
the iced tea stand. Can you find me?"
"What direction did you walk past the ice cream
cone?"
In my silence he added,
"North...south...east...west?"
"I just walked past it."
We were at the flea market extravaganza. Letting my curiosity lead me through the
treasures, I was now lost in a labyrinth of 2,000 venders, no neat rows.
John and I met at the giant ice cream cone. He led me back to the car, the opposite
direction I was headed, to unload my finds.
After learning how to place a 'pin' on my Google map so I could find the
car again, we were off to find more. John
looking for 'useful' items and me looking for 'pretty things to take pictures
of'.
I did find a few pretty things. :)
I found out I have a thing for old horse hair paint brushes,
who knew. Old Seltzer bottles are a
wonderful twist to a bottle collection, and I love how an old metal oil spout
looks. Put them all together in an old
metal milk carrier with a leather handle, add peonies from my yard...instant
still life.
I also found something I have been patiently searching
for...a vintage industrial pallet with metal legs...just the right color and
price.
The pallet was too heavy to carry, so I went to find a
porter. I let John know what I was doing,
and he asked the million dollar question, "Can you find your way back to
the pallet?"
I proudly answered, "Yes. From where I am, go right walking away from the
giant ice cream cone, turn left at the pillows and right at the large metal bird
sculptures. The vendor is in a red and
white tent on the left."
I made it back to the pallet...and the car. :)
Thank you for stopping by!
Have a great day!
Michelle
LOL! I love your story. Oh that is so us! Great "finds!" :)
ReplyDeleteThis made me smile, I am proud of you. I have the hardest time with Google maps even have problems with my GPS in my car. I tell you I don't like that lady that says "Recalculating." Sounds like you got some wonderful treasures and oh my that peony, I posted mine also but alas mine are from Trader Joe's not my garden.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so bad with directions. So glad you found your way back. These pictures of the pink flowers are lovely.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice rest of the week, Michelle.

What a great story, and sounds like a few great finds. Your peonies are so lovely!!
ReplyDeleteI need to learn to pin I'll have to google that. What a great story. What did we ever do without cell phones. In the old days you could wonder around for hours before locating someone. I loved this story!
ReplyDeleteFun story and must of been a really enjoyable day! Love your images and can't wait to see more!!
ReplyDeleteYou found some real treasures, Michelle, so love those old paint brushes !
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos !
And what a great and fun story ... reminds me of a similar one :-)
Years ago my husband and I went to a huge brocante market in a village, there were itineraries at the entrance but we thought we didn't need one.
We were lost too and asked policemen where the parking lot was,
they asked 'which one ?' ... and we didn't know,
it took a lot of time but finally we found it ... oh my ! :-)
Have a nice weekend,
Sylvia
Wonderful finds! I am so careful to make note of landmarks, but Findley and I got turned around in the woods last week. I will have to remember to place a pin in the future.
ReplyDeleteI'm so old that whenever I park my car, I immediately look for a landmark. Dropping a pin on Google Map is also a great idea. I can imagine your finds and the still lifes from your descriptions. I see a photo shoot in your future.
ReplyDeleteLOL...Michelle. What a great story. I'm so directionally challenged. All I can say is thank goodness for google maps. Im going to have to look into the pin thing! Great finds!
ReplyDeleteI love your story, and all your finds (glad you found you way with that pallet!) Repurposing old things seems to be a nice hobby especially when we put them in our photos...love yours! Your day sounds like it was fun.
ReplyDeleteWonderful story Michelle, and you are talking my language! I always park in the same place at a mall ... but in a maze of booths at a flea market ... yikes! what beautiful finds you have here. Loved everything about this!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great tory Michelle...that would be me for sure...Thank Goodness for cell phones...LOL...I haven't been to a flea market for awhile..since I stopped doing so much still life but I used to love them...Now I think of my basement as a flea market and I'm forever trying to get rid of things...I do like pretty jars though and will often pick up one of those or an unusual vase for all the wonderful spring and summer flowers...it sounds like you and your husband had a great day...
